i understand about the weight of rings, but i cant see how an insert can make you cast further? perhaps im missing something _________________ N.T.C NASTY TOURNAMENT CONVERSIONS.

I dont think anyone said that did they?
Any gain in distance would come from the weight advantage imho _________________ C.A.P.I

i used the minima4's today for the first time, must say i'm happy with the performance and i even managed to cast half decent which is a bonus! Just need to see some of the video footage to see if there is any noticeable difference in the tip recovery with the minima4's! _________________ It aint the size of your rod.

I can see that in some rings the surface area that the line can come into contact with is greater than others.
If one looks at the inner surface of some rings they are quite flat others are radial. These Minima 4 rings do appear to have a radial insert profile and would therefore have less area in contact with the line.
Whether they are as slick as say a radial zircon insert would of course be debatable.
One thing is sure they will be more durable against the clumsy ones among us. Time will be the only thing that tells if they groove or not. _________________ http://store.auctiva.com/SmartrigUK

They were susceptible to grooving from the line running through them after a couple of years it became noticeable. |
Balance knock for knock with the minima guides being less prone to the same chip or crack damage as the ceramics, then a possible groove in about 2 years must be good value at £13.00 a set.
BTW........I dont think you could compare the Seymo circa 1980 guides to the PacBay Dave. Materials have come a long way in the last 30 years and I am sure Seymo have not sold nearly as many stainless guides to the world market as PacBay but as you say "time will be the only thing that tells if they groove or not"

Don't get me wrong on this they really do look the biz.
I have tried to contact PacBay with a view to importing them or finding the U.K. wholesale distributors but no reply to emails sent to U.S. and their listed U.K. distributor bounces back. _________________ http://store.auctiva.com/SmartrigUK

If any rings on my casting rods last long enough to 'groove' in 2 years i'll be over the moon _________________ C.A.P.I
